I still use Preps 4 in classic on my Mac minis. I noticed huge system requirements for Preps 5.x.

What systems do you run Preps 5 on and how is the performance?

We run preps on anything from dual 1.8 GHz G5 PPC Mac Towers to iMac 1.8 G5's all the way up to the latest 24" iMac with no complaints in speed. Now to be fair we are using it in a prinergy workflow so all we are doing is minor template tweaking and JT creation. - tc

Never tried any Preps on a Mac Mini, but like Tom, we haven't run into any problems on any platform - down to an iMac G5. Again, a Prinergy workflow using UpFront.

How much production do you do on a Mini?

I have 3 minis with 19" wide monitors running Preps 4.23. Each is a separate license with it's own USB dongle. 2 Preps Plus and one Pro. About 20 - 30 layouts per day. No problem in classic.

As this is the only app that I am running in classic I was thinking about the upgrade to OS X but since it was non essential I did not do it yet.

I got the following from Kodak's web site:

Minimum to recommended system requirements, respectively
MAC OS X 10.3
Power MAC G3 to Power MAC G5
350 MHz G3 processor to 1 GHz G5 processor
128 MB RAM to 512 MB RAM
HFS+ hard drive with 500 MB to 1 GB free space
CD-ROM drive
USB port
1024 768 monitor resolution

Doesn't seem so heavy to me. You may even be able to run on the mini's if you upgrade the OS. I can't see using OS9 in this day and age - especially if you're just using it for one app.

I never look at the minimum but always at the recommended:

Mac OS 10.3 on 1GHz G5. Is this a mistake? Should this be 1GHz G4?

Hmmmm lowerest G5 PPC processor speed ever released for the Mac is 1.6 GHz. That should be plenty fast to do what you need. More here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Mac_G5)

Not a mistake - the recommended is 1 GHz G5. If you have the 2005 Mini, it is a G4. The 2006 Mini is an Intel Core processor. Check out www.apple-history.com for technical specifications. Actually, the recommendations specify a "PowerMac" for both recommended and minimum. I would question the letter of that specification. We're running Preps 5.2 on PowerMacs as well as iMacs without a problem. Whether a Mini will handle it is an open question.
