View Full Version : New Feature? - Show Fold Marks in the Gutter

We've been a Preps user for years, but Prinergy since October. We had to upgrade to Preps 5.2.2 for our floating-license Prinergy Friendly version.

All of a sudden we are getting trim marks in the gutter of bust-cuts. We can turn it off, but it is a real PITA!

Is there a way to disable that on our "floating license versions of Preps"?

Is it a fold/center mark? Set the size to "0" when making a new template and they'll go away.

It even shows up on flat work, bust cuts. It is the fold mark, but it's on a job that doesn't fold. We used to NOT ever get this, now we do.

Preps will always default with .5" in that particular box and it will always default with the side guides on as well. I don't use the side guides, so I always have to manually set them to 'None' in the pull-down and set the fold and center marks to '0'. The center marks are on the first dialog box when creating a new template from scratch; the fold marks are on the 'create imposition' dialog box and default to .5" I haven't figured out a way to set the preferences to 0, so I just have to remember to zero it out when making new templates. I also have to remember to zero out the distance to punch center because I do have it set properly in my default profile. It IS a PITA, and you can register your complaint to Kodak here: http://graphics1.kodak.com/global/product/workflow_data_storage/printing_solutions/production_planning/preps/preps_bug_report

or request a special feature here: http://ecentral.creo.com/ecentral/ssi/forms/PRcraving.asp

In my Rampage forum, we all got frustrated with the deleted 'update all' function in the 5 upgrade so we all filled out the form. A few days later, Kodak applied a Patch to Preps which re-added the function, so these forms are read and they do work to implement helpful changes.

Call the RC. There might be a way to disable this in the "AraxiPreps\Profiles\PrepsPrinergy\PrepsPrinergy.cf g" file, but Kodak tech support should confirm this for sure...

Edit: no clue why vBulletin is putting a space in between the "c" and the "fg" in the filename extension, but it is... no typo for me :)

I have found that it is not just the fold/center marks, but any mark on the sheet. We have a few templates that are very crowded, and the color bars will be in conflict with the page. Anywhere that the page is 'Paper white', (No image), the mark will show through. The backgrounds of a white page are transparent as far as Preps/Prinergy are concerned. With our previous Postscript workflow, the bkgd color was opaque, and the page took precedence over any marks unless the mark was specified to "Move To Front".
So we have been turning the 'Fold' Marks to zero, and for the color bars on tight layouts, we've had to place a white rectangle over the color bar, but under the page, to hide marks that might interfere with any live work.
My guess is, it has something to do with transparency support. But I'd be happier if the "Paper White" was opaque.
