View Full Version : GUA Conference Postponed!

GUA Members near and far...

Over the past week, I and other GUA Board members have heard from many registered attendees and people who had planned to attend the GUA Conference about their concerns regarding the potential for flooding in New Orleans. The feedback indicated that people who had registered were considering not coming and those who otherwise would have registered had decided not to attend. The potential disruption to their business that travel delays or other weather-related incidents might cause were considered too much of a risk.
As a result of these conversations, and after careful deliberations, the GUA Board has decided to postpone the GUA Conference scheduled for June. In its place, GUA Sessions will be held in conjunction with Graph Expo in September. Additionally, a series of educational webinars will be held throughout the year. The GUA Conference is rescheduled for the week of January 16, 2012, in New Orleans.
All conference fees paid by registrants will be fully refunded or can be applied to the rescheduled GUA Conference in January 2012. To compensate for fees associated with changing airline tickets, current registrants who have booked flights will receive an additional $200 credit toward the purchase of Kodak solutions. Kodak fully supports our decision and we are working together on preparations for the webinar series and GUA event at Graph Expo.
We regret any inconvenience this postponement causes and appreciate your understanding. We look forward to seeing you in New Orleans and at other GUA events throughout this year.

600 extra "Kodak" dollars when this is going to cost me $1350 just to change my flights? Doesn't seem right. Maybe we should look at moving it out of New Orleans. We look forward to this conference every year because it is by far the best one that we go to. We just purchased a bunch of new Kodak software in the past couple of weeks and we were looking forward to asking a lot of questions at this conference. We couldn't have just rescheduled it in later June or early July?

Believe me, None of us on the board took this decision lightly. January was the first open slot for the hotel and because of all the pre-payments we have to send to the hotel to secure the time slot we had, moving to another city.. just was nto an option The GUA would have lost huge. So right or wrong, New Orleans is the spot and mother nature has helped dictate the tone of people wanting to go. There are so many factors to consider. Moving a few weeks isn't that easy.

As for your changed flight fee, we were going on the assumption airlines charge $150 per flight to change. Is that not true? I need to to get in touch with Michele Laird-Williams to get this ironed out...

I'm disappointed too.. this was no choice, but the fact that so many people were not coming and some backing out due to the potential of flooding... We had little choice.

The flight change fee is $150 but it is the price difference in the tickets that adds to the cost too. Not a big deal but we are sending 4 people to the conference because of the amount of questions we have on the new purchases we made in the past year. Well, all the airfare is switched on my end, when are we going to hear about the conference fee so I can get a receipt that our fees has been rolled over to the new conference date?

Will the university classes and other sessions be at the same day and time in January? In other words, can I safely book flights for the same days in January as I did in June?

I would hope that they would use this opportunity to re-evaluate the demand for the classes. The new workflow class apparently had a really long wait list but they were not able to add a second one. Maybe now since they know it will be popular, they can schedule more sessions. Also, maybe they can do some of the classes at GraphExpo too.

Hi Tom,

Now that the US GUA is in Jan 2012, will this effect the date for the Europe GUA? Will this still be in February as per Athens this year?

The end of the year is fast approaching and January will soon be upon us. Has there been any thought as to when the schedule will be released for the conference?

Here is what I was told from Gudrun ...

"We plan to have a GUA lounge at Drupa, and then the actual GUA conference later in the year (possibly October again?)."
