Is there an easy way to see new posts?

Yes there is :)

Click on the link called "New Posts" on the top navigation bar.

This will open up a window indicating all the new posts - if you click on the number of replies on a given thread it will open up a new window to show you exactly who responded and from that window provides a link directly into that thread or conversation.

Could the subject line of the e-mail be the name of the thread instead of subscription notice? That would easily let me know if I want to read that message or not.
