Default 2- 8 page signatures

I'm trying in preps 7 to create two 8 page saddle stitch on same press sheet. When I try to set it up in preps it makes it 1 and 16 side by side but I need the first one to be 1-8 and the second 8 pager to be 9-16. I can't figure out why it won't give me that option. I've tried changing the page numbers and when I change the second one to start with 9 the first one goes to 20 instead of 16 and some of the pages disappear. I can assign the pages in prinergy manually but i have to pay really close attention to where the pages are. Any ideas?

What you are describing is a multi-section template. Did you specify 2 sections when you made the template?

Your template should work OK. In a multi-section template go by the little numbers and not the big ones. The small numbers on each side is 1 - 8 and 4 - 5 which is how they should be.

So If if asssign the pages in prinergy using command y its going to put the pages in correct position? It has 1 and 16 side by side. If I assign the pages automatically it will put my page 8 from the first book on the template of the second book. Then it will put page 8 from the second book on the template of the first book which should be 8 but shows up as 16. It should be 1-8 on one 8 page template and 9-16 on the second 8 page template. Thats what I need in order to automatically assign pages in prinergy. This template will not work.

You assign your pages in the pageset as 1-16 and Preps should output them as 1-8 and 9-16. The only thing I question in your template is the left sig has 1-8 at the bottom of the sheet while the right sig has 1-8 at the top of the sheet. Very well might be how you want them but it is different than what I am used to seeing.

Also is your template setup as saddle-stitch or perfect bound?

I have two 8 page books. One is in English the other in Japanese. We want to run both on same press sheet. They are saddlestitch. The low pages on the inside and high pages on outside of sheet for saddlestitcher lips. If I use the current template then when I assign the pages in prinergy It will put half the english on the japanese and half the japanese on the english. That is why each signature needs to be a complete 8 page sig. Therefore it should be 1-8, 9-16. I can achieve this through flat work but would rather use folding pages.

Are you using the signature selection tool in Prinergy to impose or imposing through preps? Also what version of Prinergy are you using?

I use create new imposition in imposition plans in prinergy. i have prinergy 7.5 and preps 7.5. I don't build anything in preps as a standalone. When building as folding patterns I leave the template unpopulated until I send it back to prinergy where I then assign the pages. What I don't understand is the auto page numbering in preps that it does. If I have an 8 pager and I want the same 8 page folding pattern I would step and repeat it. If I wanted a 16 page I would use a 16 page fold pattern. But to have two separate 8 pagers and it number them as a 16 makes zero sense to me. That would be ok if it allowed you to renumber the pages.
